Brahma Kumaris or BKWSU in politics

Post06 Jun 2008

A topic to document the involvement of the so-called Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University in politics, its political lobbying, its political influence.

I raised a poetic view of this on another topic, here. In the old days at least, it might have been edited out of the Murlis, the god of the Brahmakumaris told them theirs was a religio-political movement. Channelled through various mediumistic means, the spirit continues to guide and specifically advise them on their policy and tactics to gain political influence. All the encourage to find VIPs or "microphone souls" to do BKWSU PR, all the devices of putting "contact souls" upfront and using others programmes.

In India, this is an almost 'fait accompli' as one president after another rolls up the hill to meet Baba, the most notorious being the current Pratibha Patil who created controversy for herself and publicity for the BKs when reporters commented on her "speaking to a ghost". It notable that she did not "get", or was told, who it was she was speaking to. She thought it was the deceased Lekhraj Kirpalani, when in fact, for the brahmakumaris, it was the combined spirits of "God Father Shiva" AND the deceased Lekhraj Kirpalani. Or BapDada as we call them.

In the rest of the world, this raises problems. For example, in France there is a division between religion and the State. In the USA, there are limitation on religions within government, the armed forces and so on. In Islamic nations, any religious religo-political promotion that raises doubts about Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) is on a slippery slide. And one has to question how the BKs might fair in Maoist China, were they not using the Values Education front.

How far this political influence has gone, we must document. We had then British Prime Minister Tony Blair meeting with Brahma Kumaris in Florida. Brahma Kumari follower Brian Bacon has or has had enviable political connections. If Royalty is to be included in "The State" then the BKs have targeted and lobbied most of them I would guess doing well out of a few.

And what fruits does this bear? For example, the Telugu Desam Party is a regional political party in India's Andhra Pradesh state and the fourth largest major party in the Lok Sabha. Other links exist in the financial topics. Quotes taken from the link below.
Indian RADICAL HUMANIST ASSOCIATION wrote:Enormous properties were donated to Brahma Kumaris in Hyderabad by Telugu Desam government and also they enter into government offices with full liberty ... 30 acres land was donated near sports village in Hyderabad to Brahma Kumaris by Telugu Desam government ... They had access in government offices with full liberty to propagate their cult. They lure even the journalists to Mount Abu to get wide publicity.

For me, this is just going to be a notepad that I hope other researchers can use to make up their own assumptions about the fruits of such political lobbying and also the discussion. We have all heard the prediction of the Indian Government handing over power to the Brahma Kumaris shortly before Destruction. I wonder if there are more about the United Nations who connections the holy Sisters are working assiduously?
Mr. G.R. R. Babu criticized the State and Central Governments [of India] for indulging in the promotion of cults like Brahma Kumaris and Babas like Satya Sai. He wanted the implementation human rights, which will cut across all religions.

Acceptance, and a presence but unfortunately in many cases not accountability, just like their politician friends.

Same, same but different, eh?

Running the same number in the USA as they do in India, this foray into American politics did not quite work out as planned but lucky for Dennis Kucinich, Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives and was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States in the 2004 and 2008 elections, his new limey broad is a striking looker.
So, anyway, Elizabeth traveled to Washington with her new boss for a meeting with a congressman. She did not know anything about Dennis Kucinich. She did not know he was a lefty who had opposed the Iraq war and the USA Patriot Act from the beginning. She did not know he had divorced for the second time in 1987, or that he had a daughter four years younger than her, or that during his last presidential run there was actually an Internet contest to find him a girlfriend.

She did not know that he was attuned to the mystical, like her, or that he is vegan and has consulted a woman who teaches "expanded consciousness," and generally carries a tea bag in his suit pocket.

Her first inkling that Kucinich might be different from the run-of-the-mill congressman was the presence of two Indian nuns from the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University in Kucinich's reception room. She chatted with the nuns about India and felt herself being "opened" up by the conversation.

Then she and Zarlenga were called into Kucinich's office.

Dennis watched the young woman's eyes. First they went to a bust of Gandhi sitting on his bookshelf. Then they went to a picture given to him by the Hindu nuns -- a burst of brightness against an orange background meant to depict "conscious light." Then her eyes went to his.

"That was it," Dennis says now. "One, two, three." He knew.

"As soon as I met him I knew my life had changed," Elizabeth says. "I knew that he was my husband."

On the couch, they lean in for a kiss.

No disrespect to the Kuciniches. I hope that they have a wonderful time kissing and cuddling and in bed together but that they are not deluded by either the ultimate motivations of the Brahma Kumaris nor about the conditions of the funders of the Brahma Kumaris ambitions.

And don't try offering them any food Dennis, even if it is vegan. They wont eat it. You are both impure shudras.

But who told you it was and a picture representing "conscious light" !?! You've been short changed ... Its your Daddy!
Seriously, though - what do you make of the role of these smatterings of Hindu spirituality in the Kucinich Romance? Does this apparently sincere interest in a certain Hippie-fied version of Hinduism lead you to like the Kuciniches more or less? ... there was more gushy commentary from the reporter about hot Elizabeth and her pierced tongue.

The world can be cynical, which is all the more reason why a long-shot presidential candidate must be pure and unwavering in his faith, must be unmoved by the vagaries of the public and the media -- by its interest in the superficial, in things like height and tongue studs.

"It's pathetic," Elizabeth says of the nation's fascination with her piercing. "I really wish people would -- " She stops. "Actually, it works okay with the young people," she says. She says some time back she was out in Los Angeles, visiting an organization that works with at-risk youth and former gang members.

"This young lad was taking me around, Hispanic chap. And he was really nervous," she says. "We just, like, chatted initially, and at some point I laughed and he said, 'Oh my God, you've got a tongue ring! That's so cool! I am going to get everyone to vote for your husband!'"

"Ha!" says Dennis Kucinich, looking amazed. The happiest presidential candidate laughs and laughs.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich was also a panelist with Claes Nobel, nephew of Alred Nobel, Sister Sudesh, Director of Brahma Kumaris, Germany and others at an event sponsored by them and the 'World Federalist Association' at The World Bank in Washington DC.

The Brahma Kumaris might be concerned to read about "his enthusiasm for demilitarization" and advocation of the abolition of nuclear weapons. Looks like Destruction is off the menu then until the good Sisters can "purify" his mind and correct him on that one? But it does not stop the BKs' ambitions within the proposed US Department of Peace movement.

Re: Brahma Kumaris or BKWSU in politics

Nice bed fellows if you can find them ... what happened to the Shrimat of not accepting money from impure non-Brahmins. Does the BKWSU not understand that the money it takes from the Indian Government comes out of the pockets of the Indian people ... not their governmental friends? Would "image-building" fit political donations to the BKWSU or is it genuine social service?

From http://www.tehelka.com/story_main21.asp ... _wages.asp - THE WAGES OF MISCONDUCT published by the Tehelka - The People's Paper.
The People's Paper wrote:Godmen enjoy a lot of clout with all political parties that grant them land on lease on the outskirts of Hyderabad ... The Naidu regime granted land to the Brahmakumari cult to set up a meditation centre. Swami Ganapati Sachidanandamurthy conducted music therapy for government employees in stadiums.

"The Naidu regime is a dark phase in the history of the State" said Congress Legislture Party in The Hindu, "which began with an act of betrayal' and was marked by fraud played on the people."
The Congress report asserts that the TDP regime was marked by three distinct, rather dubious features;

    rampant corruption,
image-building of the party's Chief Minister at enormous cost to the public exchequer (estimated at over Rs 2555 crores in seven years)
    and an unprecedented public debt.
Neglecting the tenets of the welfare state, Mr.Naidu led an anti-people and pro-World Bank Government. Conditions deteriorated in the spheres of employment, financial management, agriculture, industry, social security, education and health during the last seven years. The tax burden on the people went up from Rs 4120 crores in 1995-96 to Rs 17,194 crores, which indicated how people were fleeced. The public debt from Rs 11,675 crores in 1994-95 to over Rs 50,000 crores. Every newborn in the State carries a debt of Rs 6605.

The Chief Minister wrecked the farm sector and his obsession with corporate farming is breaking the back of farmers. The unrest among them led to as many as 2000 farmers committing suicide in seven years. Crores of rupees were spent on publicity-oriented "Neeru Meeru' programmes while major irrigation projects were neglected at the behest of the World Bank.

The number of unemployed on the rolls of employment exchanges shot up from 29.06 lakhs to 31.40 lakhs. There are an estimated one crore unemployed persons in the State. Literacy rate among women is only 51.17 per cent and the DWCRA groups are being deprived of revolving funds. Commercialisation of education and health sectors had hit the poor.

Everything is connected ...

We believed in the "Universal Values" and surrendered our bones to Yagya believing that BapDada is a divine being. Since my eyes opened, I am seeing with shock that it was all lies, hypocrisy, very dark relationships with corrupted politicians and governments for power, money and for the manipulation of naive believers like me and poor folks. Who cares of the suicide of 2000 hopeless farmers when the Chief Minister C. Naidu was receiving from BapDada "Divine Blessings", was praising the spiritual teachings of the BKs in huge gatherings and was granting land to BKs.

See please the attached article and photos from Purity, March 2001 about Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's a day-and-a-half long visit to Mount Abu.
