I have been watching the so called financial crisis unfold on my 60 channels of cable TV. It reminded me that the BKs would be loving it - another crisis, especially a global one, is the food of happiness for them. It somehow vindicates their otherwise marginalised position, and brings new hope that the Murli might actually be right about destruction after all. And especially it gives hope to lazy, fat, unemployable BKs that their long, desperate wait for their own deaths might finally come!
Theirs is a life of God loving virtuous bliss - with a suicidal twist! Little wonder that, after buying into such a mindset, BKs are so screwed up when they leave. A twenty something, unhappy and confused about life and their place in it, buys into the idea of soul, god, destruction and royalty in Heaven. They surrender their real world potential to the bliss of it all. But this new BK world is pretty small - think of the poor centre in charge, a fine example of BK life, sitting at home alone on Saturday night - no friends (attachments not allowed), no TV or movies or books (not allowed) - just desperately trying to have Yoga when all they really want is to get laid. No surprise that a global crisis is good news - it the only legitimate way to get out of this hole.
But time takes its toll and loneliness, isolation from the real world, and sheer boredom cause them to give up hope on an early death and they leave - now many years have gone and so has their potential - no work experience, no qualifications - the proverbial lame duck quacking about in a world that refuses to end or give them a bloody job! From future princess to unemployment cheques or crap jobs with stigma attached. Oh, and poverty. Still the bad news won't culminate in the end of the world! Maybe just pre-empt it?
But inevitably bad news passes. America votes in a BLACK man - they will ignore the significance of that and continue to look for other bad news (except for Dadi Janki who is known to think that black is impure and a black president proof that the world is declining further). They will look to housing figures, and the collapse of the automotive industry, and unemployment figures and growth figures and global recession, and green house gasses and breaking icebergs on the polar caps. Oh and Iceland went bankrupt - there's a goody!
What they will miss is that all things unsustainable are collapsing to be replaced by a new world order based on an international cooperation that has never been seen before. Now that there is a common global problem the world has come together, to work together. People in America and Australia have rejected the fear and warmongering governments of the last decade. Climate change is a well documented discussion right through Asia - the world is cooperating. There is going to be a major restructuring. Rich people will lose a lot - their shares have crashed in value, the mortgage on their holiday house is choking them. Well they lived a life of fiction for the last 20 or 30 years and now reality is catching up.
Of course, their will always be bad news. There was an earthquake in China 200 years ago (I think) that killed people in the 100's of thousands. The bubonic plague wiped out a third of the population of Europe centuries ago. But the world did not end.
It is an old ploy of Dadi Jankis - make them think the world will finish tomorrow and they will do as they are told.
But what kind of life is it when bad news is an inspiration for spiritual effort?
What kind of life is it when you need the world to end?
