Re: Official BKWSU internal reform efforts

The World Renewal issue linked by jannisder has an article by that luminary of Western BKs, Sister Denise. She seems unconflicted in her faith. The fact that many find issues with aspects of the BKWSU, as we see on this forum, need not exclude the ability of individual BKs to lead rich and fulfilled lives, satisfied in their lifestyle of spiritual practices and disciplines.

Denise's piece reads like a transcription of a class spoken 'stream of consciousness'. Its stuck in fairy story territory complete with nymphs and shepherd boys ... its not even accurate, shepherds herd sheep not cows and the gopis were not "nymphs"!

Actually, what caught my eye was the lead story about Brahma Kumaris limbering up alongside the Billionaire, ex- or arms dealing, now British-based Sindhi Hinduja Brothers at a 3 day "Sindhi Networking" event.

In one article written about them, Money! Guns! Corruption! published by Forbes on 7 July 1997, there was a nice quote, "In the seedy bazaars of Tehran, there is an old Persian saying that translates something like this: Create an aura of mystery around you, and you will forever enjoy power and prosperity."
Pranay Gupte wrote:... the Brothers have made smoke-screening into a science -- even while mixing ostentatiously in social and political circles. They belong to the traditionally secretive Sindhi community, where the byword is:

Trust only fellow Sindhis, and then sparingly.

There are some interesting revelations regarding the secret service intelligence departments making investigations into their Middle Eastern dealings on the official record of the UK Government.
5.193. During the period when the naturalisation applications by Mr G P and Mr S P Hinduja were being handled, the Secret Intelligence Service had accumulated a certain amount of intelligence about the Hindujas' business activities abroad.

It would not be appropriate for me to describe in detail the nature of this material. Suffice it to say that it raised the possibility that they had been involved in a number of dubious practices, in some cases potentially amounting to illegal activities, but that none of the indications of such involvement was conclusive.

The material covered, but was not confined to, the Bofors scandal.

The Bofors scandal was a major corruption scandal in India in the 1980s where the then Prime Minister and several others were accused of receiving bribery from a Swedish arm company 'Bofors AB' for winning a bid to supply India's 155 mm field howitzers. Something like $250,000,000 out of a $1,300,000,000 deal is said to have done missing in backhanders.

The Hindujas have, of course, MADE modest charitable donations to various religious sects such as the Hare Krishnas (ISKCON), Sai Baba, Shree Anandamayee Ma and Sadhu Vaswani which they use to project an image of religiosity ... I wonder how the holy beggars in the BKWSU will fair?

Re: BKWSU World Renewal

I noticed a few other things ...

Despite the outing and the climb down by BKWSU London, they ... YET AGAIN ... repeat the fraudulent claim that Dadi Janki is the "the most stable mind in the world" ( and as for the "most complicated mental exercises", we remember them to be something like counting backwards from 100 and doing simple arithmetic).

Annual subscription for Indians is 70 rupees.
Annual subscription for Westerners is 700 rupees (the pdf is also protected so that no one can copy it). Is it free by email?
That to me suggests the "exchange rate" value of a Western BK to the organization. This is centralized control of information and income ... you as a follower have to pay to read their PR!

Then on page 32, the advert of free (first-come first-serve), services being offered by the Global Hospital to "dedicated" BKs. A suggestion that the hospital is primarily to serve BKs' benefit.

The "senior members of the Brahma Kumaris Managing Committee" get a mention along with the building of a new 2300-seat auditorium, separate kitchen and dining facilities for 2000 persons and accommodation for 400 beds in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.

What does the offer of "Yagya assistance, if needed at anytime" mean? How do zonal finances breakdown?
BapDada wrote:bring the teachers of Andhra Pradesh centres together because if their contributions are used for this place, then their hearts will also be drawn there. It is good for everyone to give one's co-operation.

By "co-operation", do they mean money?
