I dont know how many of you know of the Wikipedia but it is widely influential and copied around the internet by many other web encyclopedias.
It is controversial because it is entirely open for anyone to write, edit, deface or even erase. I note that 5 previous BKWSU articles have been removed but a new rough edit has been submitted and assistance or involvement in refining it would be welcome ;

Dear ex-london,
I use Wikipedia but have never actually added something. I guess an encyclopedia is meant to be impartial but this is difficult in some subjects eg religion, politics etc. I expect that this BKWSU entry may get a controversy warning  Anyway I didn't realise that anybody could erase a page, I thought this was only Admin. I wonder what the previous five entries were... |

I think that you are right, that it is " Admin only " to erase.
The reason given was that the original submission was a copy and paste of the BKs own website.
We are probably OK as long as the PBKs dont get a sniff of it and weigh in! |

I agree with the Admin on doing things here for the following reasons:
1. It would appear that the information that was placed on the wikipedia was edited and is now just a glowing report on the BKs. They have removed all mention of XBKchat, the Abuse Report, members having post BK issues etc. They have also removed any mention of the PBKs too and their site is no longer up.
2. I would say that if Ex-London and Howiemac know how to edit the wikipedia that perhaps they could schedule a review of the page from time to time so that at the very minimum we can have a link up on the page. All current links are to BK sites on the page.

I personally think the public at large would be better suited to be advised to be BEWARE of any organization that asks you to check with the SS before thinking on your own.

Tete - we were referring to an XBKchat wiki being set up, not to making use of the wikipedia.
However, thanks for bringing to our attention that links have been deleted in the BK wikipedia entry, and new information added, clearly by a BK. Anyone can edit the wikipedia - you can go in and do it yourself - just click on the edit tab - however you should practice first using their "sandbox" - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Introduction |

I will leave all wiki and wikipedia to you and Mr. Ex-London there as I am still in a virtual sand box and just recently learned the quote feature here. So perhaps you two can work on this together. I will leave that to you big boys.  Would you be so kind as to put in a link to the XBKchat, I would be wiki thankful.

I spent some time reading about Wikipedia today. There is a process for dealing with controversy. You have to learn how to do it. Part involves using the Talk section to make a consensus about changes. It's more than just going back and forth reverting someone else's changes. I'm not sure how deep I'm prepared to go into it, but at least posted a question on the board of an administrator Francs2000, who has been involved with some huge number of articles, maybe it was 3000, maybe 30,000.
Looking back at the edit history, I can see that the sections on Controversies and Sub-Sects have been eliminated.
Anyway, just to say that there is a more subtle approach possible, if one is willing to put in the time. |

Joel,
You bring forth a good point and it would be good to see about taking a poll as to how people have found the Chat. If a great majority find their way here via the wikipedia than yes some one needs to volunteer and check to see that the information is up there and available.
