xBKChat Index and External Resources List

The contributors of xBKChat are working on suggestions and a request from the admin for an xBKChat index for an external resources list. We see the need for and value of both of these, and we think that they can be combined with the BKInfo Wiki and as an entirely separate project are providing the following list of topics for individuals to work on.

Clicking on any of the following links will take you to another page to share your thoughts. Some pages have already been made, some you may have to create using a another simple link.

A preliminary outline of the topics would look something like this :

      Re-adjustments
      Relationships & marriage after leaving
Relationships between BKs but outside the maryadas
      Emotional responses - general
      Anger
      Depression
      Suicide
      Shame
      Guilt
      Therapy
      Re-constructing yourself
      Alternative Lifestyles
God - questions of identity, authenticity and duplicity
      5000 year cycle
      Revisionist approaches
      Revisionist BKs
      PBKs vis a via BKs
      Sex

xBKChat Search

Keep in mind that this will be a work in progress for some time. Feel free to add to the list of relevant topics or make your suggestions as to how this index and list may be expanded and / or improved. Think of this topic as a hopper into which you can put your findings - from xBKchat posts as well as from external websites.

XBKchat's search feature is useful but also has its limitations. Keying in a word - eg "Guilt" - may bring up a listing of many posts. However, the topic of guilt may not be dealt with substantially in each of those posts. The word "guilt" may simply be mentioned briefly or as an aside in the post. Also, the search results listing will take the viewer to an XBKchat page, not to the specific post that deals with or mentions the word "guilt". The user would then have to scroll down until he / she comes upon the post which deals with or mentions "guilt".

"URL" means Universal Resource Locater. This is the technical term for "website address". The XBKchat URL that you list can be either the URL for the XBKchat page in which the post was made, or the URL of a search request. They would both show the same webpage. HOWEVER, the search request URL is better, because it flags the keyword in color, making it easier for the user to find what he or she is looking for.

For example, let us take the topic of "depression". Here is a URL [ one of many ] for an XBKchat page which deals with that issue:

http://xbkchat.com/xbkforum/viewtopic.php?t=906

To narrow it down further, you should state the name of the poster, the date of the post, and even give a very brief synopsis, description or quote a few words from the post. For example, taking that "depression" result above, your entry here could read something like this :'

Post made by Joel on 11 March 2006

" Perhaps we could put our heads/fingers together and create a list of resources for recovering ex-BKs: books, web resources on cults/depression... "

Because of space considerations etc he asks contributors to not reproduce or quote the entire post. Contributors simply need to paste the URL and brief details as above. The reader will take over from there.

External website example

Regarding external websites, the process would be similar. One can state the topic, give the external URL (ie website address) and provide a very brief description of what one is directing the reader to on the particular webpage. Because of copyright, space and other considerations, you are asked not to quote extensively from external sites.

See, quarter way down the page, where the BKs are discussed:

" Brahma Kumaris [ often under the false title "Worldwide Spiritual University" ]. This is a Hindu organization with international interconnections; its name means "Brahma's daughters". It was founded by a Hindu merchant, who... "

Work in Progress

As he said, this is will be a work in progress for him for some time. It will evolve in different ways and will only take firm shape towards the end. At that time, he expects that your entries under this topic will be reviewed, edited, corrected, formatted and transferred to a brand new xBKchat page which - provisionally - he has entitled "XBKchat Index and External Resources List". However, the work that has gone into this index here will remain.
