Cultic drugs

Post03 Jun 2012

The whole world is raging a relentless war against drugs and narcotics, which have severe negative effects on people's mental health and wellbeing.

The question is, are not certain cults teachings as damaging as these drugs and have negative mental consequences in the long run ... ??

Let us take Brahma Kumaris cult teachings as an example, and study their effect and influence on BK followers and their families. The near hallucination episodes he or she goes through could lead to mentally and emotionally destructive results and produce distorted personalities.

Most of the Euoropean governments have classified BK cult as DANGEROUS, and the Greek government have gone a step further by classifying it as an ENEMY OF THE STATE.

However, and with full respect to human rights, beliefs and freedom of expression, is it not high time that governments step in to protect their citizens and declare these dangerous cults such as BK "ENEMIES OF ALL SOCIETIES" ??

Yes, you are right. But one thing with democracy is the freedom of religion. As most cults are very handy in hiding and indoctrination of fear so ex-members will not speak up, there is never proof.

Even if you report a group, how do you think they handle it? They call a center ask, this or that and the cult says well it is not true. The fact that government people rather do nothing, that answer is enough and fill a report, it's all okay. Not knowing that if you want to know what a cult is all about, you need to infiltrate to the inner core ... any volunteers? I guess not. And so the cult can go ahead no one questioning and the money keeps coming in. TAX money which means your and my money.

Absolutely Jann. Authorities get alarmed by complaints from individuals or civil society activists, who could even raise a legal case in the court of justice.

Investigation should include not only witnesses, but also thorough investigation of the cult including teachings, books, write ups, internet sites ... etc. Certain governments are particularly sensitive to such issues and would handle them seriously.
