Socioeconomic and political structure of BK society

Post04 Jan 2012

Erich Fromm wrote:What people think and feel is rooted in their character and their character is moulded by the total configuration of their practice of life - more precisely, by the socioeconomic and political structure of their society.

Erich Fromm (1950) Psychology and Religion, Yale University, p.52

What is the the socioeconomic and political structure of the BK society?

Economic structure is easy ...

"Your wallet is Baba's wallet" if they can manage to get you to believe it, along with your home and any free time you have!
Social structure is of two classes ...

'Senior Sisters and privileged advisors' and 'powerless, undemocratic mass', to which you might add, "... and untouchable outcasts" such as the PBKs and a few ex-BKs.

I find it hard to see the Brahma Kumaris as little more than a Mafia. An international secret society with little to no "formal" structure and a few front "shell" organizations. The "structure" seems to have evolved out of the early days of adversity when it was avoiding persecution making it secretive, hidden and clandestine in tendency even today.
Political structure is more difficult ...

Royalist/Imperialist by pretension, obviously. Rulers of others by self-professed divine right. I think at the top there are seem to be a number of power structures within the BKWSU, based around individuals and their followers, which exist in subtle tensions to each other. Authority seems to depend largely on:

    a) How long you have stuck around and when the last time you had sex was
    b) How much money you can pull it and how many VIPS you know

The sex issue is 'negotiable' if you happen to be very intelligent and talented and can add marketing benefits to the organization, or if you own the center property you work for them from.

At the bottom, many smaller centers exist as relatively quiet, content little out of the way kingdoms of a center in charge plus subjects
Any other opinions?
